This is JASON FYLES and he goes to my university (Newcastle University, North East of England) He is 19 years old, 5’8, ginger hair and slim. He was last seen in the Sandyford area at 2:45am on Thursday morning and has not been seen since. He was wearing a blue shirt, grey cardigan, beige chinos and brown ankle boots. Everyone in uni is so worried about him along with his family and friends. We are coming together as a university to appeal for his safe return. It is thought that he lost his friends on the night out and tried to make his way back by himself. Please, I am begging for you to REBLOG THIS, even if you don’t live in Newcastle, or England. PLEASE. Nobody reblogged my own post on this which I posted an hour or so ago so I’m wondering if nobody will now. This guy is my friend. If I have ever sent you a nice ask or reblogged something of yours and it made you happy for a second (or even if I haven’t; this is about helping him, not doing me a favour) for God’s sake just help now, help to find my friend Jason. Once we all grew beans in pots as part of a Biology experiment- the experiment failed miserably and made the whole lab stink, but his was the only bean that grew and he was actually pretty proud about it

He learned to knit as part of a school project where he had to learn a creative skill, and when a couple of people teased him about it he said “gender is a social construct” and carried on knitting like a badass

He loves the scene in The Great Gatsby where Gatsby throws all his silk shirts around and he and I used to giggle over it together

Once I asked him if he had a string of tinsel I could use in a photoshoot and he brought me a big cardboard box full of tinsel and fairy lights because he’s a helpful and lovely guy

He’s HUMAN and he needs our HELP and just PLEASE PLEASE FUCKING REBLOG THIS??? He’s been missing for four days now- when he went missing he would have been wearing his contact lenses and he won’t have had his (very thick) glasses with him so by now he’ll have had to take his contacts out and throw them away and he won’t be able to see well and oh God just please signal boost this

Because to men, a key is a device to open something. For women, it’s a weapon we hold between our fingers when we’re walking alone at night.

Because the biggest insult for a guy is to be called a “pussy,” a “little bitch” or a “girl.” From here on out, being called a “pussy” is an effing badge of honor.

Because last month, my politics professor asked the class if women should have equal representation in the Supreme Court, and only three out of 42 people raised their hands.

Because rape jokes are still a thing.

Because despite being equally broke college kids, guys are still expected to pay for dates, drinks and flowers.

Because as a legit student group, Campus Fellowship does not allow women to lead anything involving men. Look, I know Eve was dumb about the whole apple and snake thing, but I think we can agree having a vagina does not directly impact your ability to lead a
college organization.

Because it’s assumed that if you are nice to a girl, she owes you sex — therefore, if she turns you down, she’s a bitch who’s put you in the “friend zone.” Sorry, bro, women are not machines you put kindness coins into until sex falls out.

Because only 29 percent of American women identify as feminist, and in the words of author Caitlin Moran, “What part of ‘liberation for women’ is not for you? Is it freedom to vote? The right not to be owned by the man you marry? The campaign for equal pay? Did all that good shit get on your nerves? Or were you just drunk at the time
of the survey?”

Because when people hear the term feminist, they honestly think of women burning bras. Dude, have you ever bought a bra? No one would burn them because they’re freaking
expensive.

Because Rush Limbaugh.

Because we now have a record number of women in the Senate … which is a measly 20 out of 100. Congrats, USA, we’ve gone up to 78th place for women’s political representation, still below China, Rwanda and Iraq.

Because recently I had a discussion with a couple of well-meaning Drake University guys, and they literally could not fathom how catcalling a woman walking down University Avenue is creepy and sexist.
Could. Not. Fathom.

Because on average, the tenured male professors at Drake make more than the tenured female professors.

Because more people on campus complain about chalked statistics regarding sexual assault than complain about the existence of sexual assault. Priorities? Have them.

Because 138 House Republicans voted against the Violence Against Women Act. All 138 felt it shouldn’t provide support for Native women, LGBT people or immigrant women. I’m kind of confused by this, because I thought LGBT people and women of color were also human beings.
Weird, right?

Because a girl was roofied last semester at a local campus bar, and I heard someone say they think she should have been more careful. Being drugged is her fault, not the fault of the person who put drugs in her drink?

Because Chris Brown beat Rihanna so badly she was hospitalized, yet he still has fans and bestselling songs and a tattoo of an abused woman on his neck.

Because out of 7 billion people on the planet, more than 1 billion women will be raped or beaten in their lifetimes. Women and girls have their clitorises cut out, acid thrown on them and broken bottles shoved up them as an act of war. Every second of every day. Every corner of the Earth.

Because the other day, another friend of mine told me she was raped, and I can no longer count on both my hands the number of friends who have told me they’ve been sexually assaulted. Words can’t express how scared I am that I’m getting used to this.

Because a brief survey of reality will tell you that we do not live in a world that values all people equally and that sucks in real, very scary ways. Because you know we live in a sexist world when an awesome thing with the name “feminism” has a weird connotation. Because if I have kids someday, I want my son to be able to have emotions and play dress up, and I want my daughter to climb trees and care more about what’s in her head than what’s on it. Because I don’t want her to carry keys between her fingers at night to
protect herself.

Because feminism is for everybody, and this is your official invitation.

At work today I overheard a conversation about an LGBT musicians group. Not a band, I don’t think, but more of a collective or support group. The argument being made was that this is evidence of “the gays” not actually wanting equality, but special treatment. Really? An oppressed minority wanting to create a space where they can feel safe for a little while is special treatment? It’s not like this group is demanding government subsidies. Incidentally, the only thing I can find that fits this bill is www.homoground.com, whose mission statement (“HOMOGROUND is dedicated to promoting equality and visibility for all people through music and art while maintaining a creative medium for queer & allied artists and music lovers worldwide. Basically, we are just a bunch of nerdy queers who like to make things.”) just basically says “Yo, we like making music with people who also like making music!”

But the assertion or belief that this is “the gays” somehow over-reaching what they deserve is just flat out bullshit. What about the NAACP? Are they acting out of place by trying to ensure rights for the historically oppressed? What about the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee? Should minorities just be quiet and sit in the shadows and refuse to stir up public awareness? Should blacks in the 50’s and 60’s just politely asked, quietly, every once in awhile, if maybe they could have their basic human rights too?

The LGBT fight for marriage-equality and social-equality pretty well mirrors the Civil Rights movement of the 60’s, and most “decent, God-fearing Amurrcans” would agree now that yes, of course blacks should be able to marry whites and vote and drink from the same drinking fountain. But they’re the same kind of people who would’ve been against it had they been alive then. What conservatives are really afraid of is change. They like their traditions, even if those traditions include racism and homophobia. To change those traditions means to change the way they see the world. And they’re just not ready for that.

But don’t you dare allow YOUR fear to interfere with HUMANITY’S rights.

Well, this one was pretty epic, but awesome fun too. Deliberately called it an illustrated guide rather than an infographic, but hopefully it will give folks some background info on the long history of the character, as well as some interesting factoids and trivia.

“A man charged with beating a money to death with a tree branch at a zoo in Boise, Idaho, last fall has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty. …[He] faces up to seven years in prison for the felony and six months incarceration on the animal cruelty charge.”

All well and good, but then:

“A man from O’Fallon, Mo., who had sexual contact with a 10-year-old girl in his home on several occasions was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison. Cody Lee Bonecutter, 19, …pleaded guilty to one count of statutory rape, two counts of statutory sodomy and filing a false report.”

The monkey-killer got a longer prison sentence than a piece of shit who raped a 10-year-old girl.

Then There was actually a second story about statutory rape, this time involving a ten-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl. That forty-four-year-old bad person, named James Arthur Gardner, was facing ten years in prison until he was sent to the Sex Offender Rehabilitation and Treatment Service in Farmington. I’m not sure if he has to spend all ten years there, but it still seems like a really light sentence for probably costing extremely long-term damage to little kids.

In Supernatural, season 1, the brothers travel about 12,983 miles in a 1967 Impala. ‘67 Impalas got around, maybe, 20 MPG, but could only run on leaded gasoline (assuming the engine in this Impala is an original). When the first season aired in 2005, gas about three bucks a gallon (I can’t find a specific price for that time for leaded gas). So if my math is right, Sam and Dean Winchester spent around 1,947 dollars on gasoline in season one. There’s apparently a lot of money in demon hunting!

When Stagecoach Mary wasn’t cracking rabid wolves in the fucking face with the stock of her ten-gauge or single-handedly building schoolhouses for poor Native American girls, you could find her in the saloons of Cascade drinking men under the table like the chick from Raiders of the Lost Ark and chomping on homemade cigars so potent that hardly any gunslinger in town had the stomach to handle them. You’d think maybe some folks would have tried to fuck with her, considering that she was, you know, a black woman in a society that at the time wasn’t particularly well-known for its attitudes towards racial and gender equality, but Stagecoach Mary wasn’t the sort of badass chick that was going to let people tell her what the fuck she was going to do or how she was going to do it. At a time when non-prostitute women weren’t allowed to drink at saloons, she received special permission from the Mayor to be served at any bar in the city any time she wanted, for life. Any time some asshole messed with her, she fucked him up. Like, one time a guy called her a rude name outside a saloon, so she looked at him for a second, said nothing, then grabbed a big fucking rock out of the street and clubbed him in the skull with it repeatedly until other cowboys finally restrained her. This chick gained such a reputation for being the shit out of uppity gunslingers that didn’t show her the proper respect that the Great Falls Examiner newspaper once cited this hard-drinking, quick-tempered asskicker as having “broken more noses than any other person in Montana,” and nobody ever debated the claim.
